New Zealand - South Island

In the last 2 weeks i was on the South Island in New Zealand. The weather was always very good, only one day rain on the Westcoast. From Picton to Christchurch i gone by train and than by bike to Lake Tekapo. This was wonderful! But the night was very cold. There was ice on my tent and the water in my bottles was frozen. On the next day i had a flight with a little airplane over the Fox Glacier, the lakes and mount cook. This is the highest mountain on the South Island. On the Westcoast i have seen the Franz Josef Glacier and the rainforest. The pancake rocks are very interesting. In the near of the Abel Tasman NP i was skydiving. 60 seconds freefall from 13000 feet. This was very good. Now i’m in Wellington and tomorrow i’ll catch the bus to Auckland. On november, 1 i have a flight to Australia.

New Zealand - North Island

Now I’m in New Zealand. In the last 8 days i travelled from Auckland to Wellington and Picton. The most beautiful landscape for me on the north island is the Lake Taupo and the Desertroad with the vulkans. The weather was always very good. I had no rain on the bike. In the campegrounds you often have a pool with geothermic water from an hot spring. The people here are very friendly and i have 2 invitations for Auckland and Wellington. In the next 2 weeks i’ll go to the south island. There it’s much colder and on the top of the mountains is snow but i have warm clothes.

this was the USA

The last month i had a wonderful time in the USA. In the near of Portland a nice couple (Bruce and Barb) invited me to sleep in their house. Thank you. Directly on the coast i was gone south on the highway 101. I met a lot of other cyclists. We were together for a couple days and it was very funny.

The Oregon Coast was very beautiful, but it was sometimes very forgy. I went trough the Redwoods in California. The trees are very huge and more than 2000 years old.

I stayed for 2 nights in San Francisco an made a tour by motorboat to the Golden Gate Bridge and the island Alcatraz. On pier 39 i’ve seen the sealions and with the swiss cyclist Hans-Peter i was ate in Chinatown.

East of Oakland i got help from the firefigthers of the fire department. They gave me water, fruits and a very good chicken sandwich! I sleeped on the campground Mt. Diablo. My idea was to go to Yosemite NP, but i had not enough time. So i went back to the coast. The friendly man Thomas picked me up with his car and we went together over the moutains to the coast.

Now i went south on the highway 1. The nature here is very beautiful and i have seen dolphins and wales. In the near of one campgrund was a forestfire, only 2 miles away.

In the last 5 days i made between 90 and 120 miles per day. Now i’m in Los Angeles and i stay by Jim in Laguna Beach. I have met him on the coast and he is a very funny man. Tomorrow i have a flight to New Zealand.

I’m sure, this was not my last tour through the USA. I will come back…
